Oil Determination Apparatus 

Extracting oil from a plant is now easy with the help of Clevenger’s Apparatus, the evidently used method by the researchers for determining volatile oil which is heavier than water and vice-versa. 

The Oil Determination Apparatus is an ideal for extracting oil from plants like eucalyptus, lavender, tea tree, etc.. It is made up of super fine borosilicate 3.3 glass which is chemical as well as heat resistant. Oil Extraction is a slow process depending on the temperature of the flask.

Types 

• Oil Heavier than Water - For oil which is heavier than water is collected on top through a connecting tube. The oil floats down and is collected in the tube and the water gets evaporated. 

• Oil Lighter than Water - When the oil is lighter than water, it floats through the tube and gets collected above the stopcock. The  water cools down with the help of a condenser and floats back to the flask.

Tip 

It is preferred to use a Heating Mantle with this apparatus because it is more convenient and makes the process quicker than the required time.
